Israel/ Palestine: The end of the Oslo Peace Agreement and the next round of a coming showdown

Israel/ Palestine: The end of the Oslo Peace Agreement and the next round of a coming showdown

The underlying conflict between Israel and the Palestians is quite obvious. The Oslo Peace agreement is dead and both sides are preparing for a showdown for the aftermath. While the PLO sticked to the conditions of the Oslo agreement, acknowleged Israel´s right to exist, abolished its former terrorism and called for a two state solution, Hamas and the Netanjahu government rejected the idea of a two state solution and did everything to undermine it.Israel used the Oslo Peace agreement to…

Annalena Baerbock’s Foreign Policy: Humanitarian Bellicist or Pacifist Appeaser?

Annalena Baerbock’s Foreign Policy: Humanitarian Bellicist or Pacifist Appeaser?

There is a lot to read about possible government coalitions – from black-green, to the traffic light coalition to R2G. The latter variant is less likely, even if it is painted on the wall by Germany’s right-wing parties as a specter for the purpose of the election campaign. While SPIEGEL, Stern, SZ, FR and other media are very Baerbock-friendly, Springer’s BILD and Welt, Burdas Focus in combination with Jan Fleischhauer and Sahra Wagenknecht; Yippens Merkur now fire at the Greens…

Chad and the Sahel: Pacification or Europe´s new Afghanistan in Africa?

Chad and the Sahel: Pacification or Europe´s new Afghanistan in Africa?

In the last weeks, several columns of rebel fighters have entered Chad from neighboring Libya with the intention of unseating long-time strongman and friend of the West Idriss Déby Itno, Chad’s ruler for the past thirty years. Despite multiple claims by Chad’s government spokesman that the rebel formation had been defeated, this weekend US, French, and UK embassies ordered withdrawals from their embassies or advised their nationals to leave immediately or shelter in place citing a likelihood of violence in…

Destabilization of the Balkan: EU membership or border revisions?

Destabilization of the Balkan: EU membership or border revisions?

At the moment there are next to no reports in the media about the Balkan. As the Jugoslavia war is over, peace seems to have replaced the ethnic cleansings and open conflicts. However ethnic tensions are increasing in the Balkan. Russia, China, Turkey and some Eastern European countries try to get spheres of influence in the Balkan and the Western military is still deployed in the Kosovo to prevent bloodshed between Serbs and Kosovo Albanians while Putin´s FSB tried to…

Uygurs: The CCP´s official propaganda line

Uygurs: The CCP´s official propaganda line

As the discussion about a boycott of the Olympics in Beijing 2022 started and in Western countries the formation of supporters, so called “anti-China forces” and pro-Uygur forces accelerates, the Global Times tries to make counterpropaganda. The Global Times now published an infographic about the official CCP arguments against the allegations of pro-Uygur supporters, especially against Adrian Zenz who spoke of genocide, ethnocide, mass deportation of 1 million Uygurs, forced sterilization and abortion and forced labour which we want to…

Black Lives Matter, police brutality and the state of emergency

Black Lives Matter, police brutality and the state of emergency

I think the problem is more complex than Black Live matters describes the racial problem. Of course, structural racism due to history that blacks in the era of colonialism were forcibly sold and brought to the USA as slaves and not as free willing migrants, the predominantly WASP society , social equality, the lack of a welfare state and poverty,  imperfect education systems  are factors which support racial discrimination and related social inequality. But in the case of police brutality…

German- Chinese consultations: A new “German problem”?

German- Chinese consultations: A new “German problem”?

While under the government of Helmut Schmidt and Helmut Kohl, as well as the US governments at that time, engagement policy towards China was dominant, the Schröder / Fischer government even thought of expanding the new G8 with Russia into a G9 with China and wanted for this Eurasization of the G7 to get a permament seat in the UN Security Council and a reform of the UN, Schröder also saw China and Russia as a top priority, from which…

France: Erosion of the Republican consensus and calls for a coup de etat before the coming Presidential elections

Their last battle will serve to defend “Western civilization” in France. Twenty retired generals have made a high-profile appeal that denounced the “laxity” of those in charge of politics in the face of the threat posed by Islamism and, literally, “the hordes in the banlieue”. “France is in danger. We remain soldiers and cannot ignore what is happening to our beautiful country, ”they write. The appeal was signed by more than 100 officers and 1,000 other military personnel. He belatedly…

EU-Russian ecological cooperation-the discussion in the Russian elite has just started: RIAC, CREON, IISES, Karaganov, NRU-HSE and Russia in Global Affairs

In the Global Review/ Club of Rome paper ” EU-Russian ecological cooperation needed despite and because of the Covid crisis”we described the Russian state of mind in ecological affairs as follows: “Russian strategists including Putin have a very ambivalent relation to climate crisis. On the one side Putin signed the Paris Climate Accord—different to Trump and Bolsonaro -, thinks about the consequences of the frost melt of the Russian East and the airing of methane, on the other side Putin…

Burma/Myanmar: Between ASEAN´s demanded deescalation and real escalation

While the situation in Burma/Myanmar is escalating, the Karen Union attacking Burmese military troops to protect protesters and some parts of the opposition call for international interference under the Right To Protect (R2P), China tries to fend off any Western or foreign support for the opposition before the meeting of the Myanmar coup leader Snr-Gen Min Aung Hlaing with the ASEAN as this would escalate and destabilize the situation. However, calls by the opposition for an invitation to the ASEAN…

Annalena Baerbrock and Katrin Göring Eckhardt on EU-Russia-Climate Protection Cooperation: “The cooperation possibilities outlined by you will therefore be difficult or impossible to implement from our point of view with the current leadership in the Kremlin”

Global Review asked Annalena Baerbrock and Katrin Göring-Eckhardt how they think about an EU-Russia climate protection cooperation. Unfortunately, we only received very general, rather negative answers, which, moreover, cannot imagine any cooperation with Putin and the Russian government, but primarily only through NGOs. Dear Mrs. Baerbrock, How do you think about an EU-Russia climate protection cooperation, the reforestation of the green lungs of Eurasia, the Siberian forests, the promotion of blue and turquese hydrogen technology with gas, the cooperation in…

Peace in Lybia, war in Chad: Islamic Belt from Nigeria to the Sahel zone or fragmentation and new African order?

After the Lybian war parties under the mediation from Russia and Turkey signed a peace treaty, build a transistion government and want to hold elections this year, the war zone and its regional players seem to move to the next front: Chad and the Sahel zone. In Chad, the polling stations had just closed on April 11th. The residents of the oasis town of Wour in the far north flocked to the markets to stock up on food for Ramadan,…

Israel and the Iran deal: Natanz, hoped-for regime change, military strike or acceptance

Israel´s government is trying to influence the Biden administration which pushes for a new Iran deal. Netanjahu still reserves the right to act on its own as a sovereign nation and is concerned that Biden won´t listen to Israel´s interests. However, a former IDF intelligence chief thinks that a new Iran deal could be a solution which buys Israel time and would be in its own interest. “Israeli cabinet ‘concerned the US wants an Iran deal at all costs’ The…

Antifascism in the Bundeswehr: How would you have acted or how will you act today in view of the AfD and after the war in Afghanistan?

Unlike in the USA, where the bearer of arms ihavea guaranteed basic right and iare understood in the sense of an inalienable human right, the monopoly of force does not only lie with state institutions, but Trumpists, neo-Nazis, Tea party people and militias walk around armed, while German fascists have when they want armed organizations  the only way is through the infiltration of the state monopoly of violence, shooting clubs and the illegal procurement of weapons.

Letter from an America friend: The Unlikelihood of a War With China and Russia

Letter from an America friend: The Unlikelihood of a War With China and Russia

The Unlikelihood of a War With China and Russia By: George Friedman Much has been made of China’s seemingly unending potential to invade Taiwan – nearly as much as Russia’s buildup near Ukraine, which many believe is little more than a pretext for a future war. Lurking behind this is the age-old fear that Russia and China will team up to undermine the United States, say, by launching simultaneous attacks. This isn’t inconceivable, but neither is it likely. Let’s…
