Reset of the Iran Deal: Critic by “United against Nuclear Iran” and former BND chief Hanning

Often the critic against the Iran deal JCPOA is rejected as it comes from US neocons, so called Iran hawks, Trumpists and therefore it was not worth discussing the arguments. The mainstream politicans in Europe also support the Iran deal and want a reset. However, the JCPOA critics also include moderate US democrats and even some European critics. This can bee seen in the organization “United against Nuclear Iran”. Here  a former Italian ambassador to Germany and former BND chief…

Bennett-Israel and Biden-USA: Will Russia cancel the Netanjahu-Putin gentlemen´s agreement for Syria and the Greater Middle East?

After the new 8 parties- coalition government with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett got elected, debates arouse if it is stable and will survive its first term, whether Bennett can replace Natanjahu in terms of popularity, US contacts and in terms of  the hard line foreign policy of the Israeli Netanjahu right. However a comment in the Jerusalem Post thinks that Bennett can do this much better than Netanjahu, first because he has a more balanced relation to different layers of…

Greece: New Silicon Valley, energy belt for climate neutral EU, LNG axis and military base against AKP-Turkey, Xi-China and Putin-Russia?

Greece experienced during the financial crisis 2008 and the afterwards developing Euro and state debt crisis, its area austerity program and the title to be the laziest and chaotic people and state in South Europe. The big bail out and the nonimplementatiation of the No-referendum to leave the Euro were the results and a big debate if the EU and the Euro was a valueable project and might be better of without Greece in the Euro club. Austerity programs were…

Sino-American conflict: Rare earth and proxy wars instead of interstate great power wars?

Global Review recommends two articles about the Sino-American conflict. First, “ America´s strategic vulnerability. Rare Earth Elements” by Ariel Cohen and James C. Grant at the website of the Foreign Policy Reeaerch Institute (FPRI), June 22nd 2021. Interesting article that compares the US dependence on China`s rare earths with the dependence on oil during  the OPEC embargo 1973 and suggests similar measures: Restructuring of the supply chain, investment in other rare earth mining countries, a strategic reserve, a consumer´s club….

Nuclear proliferation under Biden, Putin and Xi , fake news and the future of East Asia

O wow, apparently a Hong Kong author and youngster who is allied with the UK is calling for a latent deterrent, latency detterence, for East Asian non-nuclear states in his article “The nuclear future of Easr Asia”. Southasia and South East Asia not mentioned. . Whether such considerations would arise in Germany if Trump were to be re-elected? Somewhat carelessly, our young pan-Asian milk tea allied drinker and realpolitican for the sake of national interests,  speaks of a possible preemptive…

Trump- new storm and coup in the future?

Trump is still alive and very active. Meanwhile the Biden administration tries to get rid of Trump by legal procedures and maybe Trump gets imprisoned or a penalty. However, it…

Will Japan defend Taiwan?

Will Japan defend Taiwan?

So far, Japan has kept a low profile in the conflict between China and Taiwan. Tokyo is now taking its side with Taiwan more and more openly – militarily if necessary. A deployment abroad would be highly controversial among the population. Traditionally, the Japanese government has officially kept a low profile in the conflict between China and Taiwan. Japan maintains important economic relations with both Chinese states. Any open positioning in favor of democratic Taiwan would exacerbate tensions in the…
